Composite Low Maintenance Decks
A great way to avoid the maintenance that normally comes with a deck is via a composite deck. The best part of a composite deck is that you never have to oil it! This also saves on twice-yearly oils in the long-term.
A composite deck is made mainly from wood chip particles and PVC, as opposed to just timber, and is completely termite and rot resistant. It is important to always choose a quality composite decking board to ensure a natural look and nice finish. While there are cheap and nasty composite decking boards on the market, we always make sure we only choose manufacturers that produce boards of only the highest quality.
If you live in a bushfire prone area, some of our composite decking boards area rated up to a BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) of BAL 40, making it suitable for many applications in Bushfire prone areas.

A composite low maintenance deck thrives in marine / coastal / salty environments. Some of our composite decking manufacturers will also supply a 25 years fade warranty, even for fully exposed composite decks (decks that are not covered by pergolas or alfrescos).

In order to avoid end-to-end joins of the composite decking boards, we will often install what is known as a ‘breaker board’ (pictured). A breaker board will often sit in the middle of the deck to break up the deck into separate sections. This looks great, avoids end-to-end joins and can be useful for defining different parts of your outdoor living space.

Another popular design technique with composite low maintenance decks is to utilise different shades or different colours of decking board as a ‘picture frame’ or breaker board. This can again define different parts of the outdoor living space, but also adds a touch of class to the finish of the composite deck that you wouldn’t normally achieve with timber.
